Providence Health & Services Vice President, Information Services Epic Implementation PSJH in Anaheim, California

THE ROLE

The Vice President (VP) of Epic Implementation PSJH will be based in one of the following locations: Renton, WA, Seattle, WA, Beaverton, OR, Portland OR, Irivne, CA or Anaheim, CA. This person is responsible for setting the strategy and executing on multiple Epic implementation programs including PSJH growth and expansion, community technologies & new ventures. The VP role has accountability for program development and execution for all aspects of Epic implementation including applications, clinical informatics, technology and project management. Manages annual capital project in excess of $200M. The VP of Epic leads the program directors and managers and works in a matrixed environment for all other team resources. Works across all IS team and multiple operational teams to ensure the end to end success of all phases of the projects. Works with executive leadership on strategy development, responsible for direction and mentorship for management and staff engaged in the delivery of programs Providence Saint Joseph Health. Acts as thought leader and partner with key organizational leaders in all areas of leaders to ensure implementation delivers quality products that meet the strategic needs of the organization. Functions as a trusted IS adviser in defining, delivering, and improving services for the PSJH enterprise and its customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategy Development and Alignment - Develops enterprise strategies for Implementation programs that support PSJH enterprise, corporate, regional and local clinical and business needs and objectives.

  • Governance - Development and leadership of domain specific governance groups within PSJH IS Shared Services. Active, critical participation and leadership in corporate governance groups (e.g., strategy officers) as IS representative. Leadership of enterprise project and program governance for major transformational initiatives throughout PSJH.

  • Organization Leadership - Leads large multi-disciplinary teams comprised of clinical, operational and technical experts across the PSJH enterprise. Responsible for mentoring and talent development of senior IS leadership (e.g., AVPs, Exec Dir, and Dir). Leads large programs and projects that cross organizations (e.g., joint ventures, affiliates, PHS, SJH) and require exceptional leadership skills.

  • Technical Service Delivery - Leads complex implementation and activities including enterprise implementations, programs and operational redesign. Leads the development of program standards for applications in collaboration with IS engineering and support functions. Works with cross functional teams to design new solutions and retire obsolete technologies.

  • IS Operational Excellence - Sets operational standards for Epic implementation in partnership with other IS leaders and ensures technical operations are of the highest caliber. Co-leads relevant governance forums and ensures department wide advocacy and transparency for operational initiatives. Leads relevant major initiatives according to operational standards and monitors for exceptions, addressing major changes proactively. "

  • IS Staff Leadership - Manages a diverse group of project managers, program managers, directors through challenging technical and operational initiatives. Leads a significant portion of the enterprise ISEpic implementationofferings and collaborates as leader-partner with applications, Informatics, PPMO, and technical services Provides senior ISleadership direction for major affiliation and joint venture initiatives.

  • Collaboration & Coordination - Maintains relationships with key executives, business partners and other senior leaders throughout PSJH, the PSJH affiliates and within the IT industry in order to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging application technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies.

  • IS Standards and Service Model Development - Develops & implements appropriate, and new, service delivery models for enterprise application support. Identifies standards for application maintenance and support and ensures teams are trained, monitored and evaluated on standards.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required education and qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Services or a related field.

  • More than 10 years of Senior Leadership experience in a healthcare setting; Demonstrated ability to create and successfully execute strategic plans for highly complex issues; healthcare information services operations and support; experience standardizing complex and disparate processes; methodologies related to application management such as system deployment, support, and life cycle; experience in process improvement methodology, change management, operational improvement in complex systems. Must have proven ability to interact at and communicate to all levels of an organization. Organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills and the ability to manage shifting priorities are critical for success in this position. Most have a proven track record working in highly matrixed environment.

  • 7 years of Sr. leadership experience in deploying Epic Electronic Medical Records. Responsibility for all aspects including cost models, program development, change readiness, team oversight and execution.

  • Detailed knowledge and experience regarding core vendor strategies.Ability to maintain comprehensive knowledge of the IS solutions suite and effectively represent IS to customers and to IS. Ability to tactfully and carefully manage end-user expectations of Information Services.

  • Demonstrated experience of successful applications management across large geographic areas with virtual teams and partnerships with business owners and other IT professionals.

Proactive identification of ways to enhance or improve application service delivery.

Ability to rapidly summarize complex information and present to others.

Proficiency with operating and capital budgeting tools and MS-Office suite of products.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communications.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives with an emphasis on employing software solutions that provide business value.Broad expertise and thorough understanding of current developments and trends in healthcare computing.

  • Strong vendor and contract management skills and ability to negotiate through challenging situations with both internal and external customers.

  • Ability to comprehend customer business needs with respect to support of and impact to PHS organizational objectives, mission, and core values.

  • Strong knowledge of current best practices in system lifecycle management, ITIL and LEAN based disciplines.

  • Demonstrated experience of successful applications management across large geographic areas with virtual teams and partnerships with business owners and other IT professionals.
