Chaplain Resident - Spiritual Care at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center
The Chaplain Resident position provides temporary employment in the Spiritual Care Departments of Providence ministries in Southern California for qualified persons enrolled in Providence Health & Services—Southern California Region's full-time Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. Before employment, Chaplain Residents must first apply for, and be accepted into, that CPE program. Chaplain Residents must successfully complete consecutive CPE units and continue participation in the CPE program in order to continue qualifying for employment as Chaplain Residents. Second year residents who are accepted for specialized training will have already completed a first year residency (four units of CPE).
For a first year residency: Bachelor's Degree, with additional graduate theological education
For a second year residency: Master's Degree in theology or pastoral care, plus four units of completed CPE
Driver’s licensure and access to an automobile for driving while on-call
For a first year residency:Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Care or equivalent
For a first year residency: One completed unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

Our exceptional orthopedic program has recognized for its excellent outcomes and clinical expertise. Our Bariatric Program, a leader and resource for those dealing with obesity in Southern California, received a Five-Star Rating for Bariatric Surgery. In the fall of 2022, we will open our brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department which will triple our capacity to care for the community in their time of greatest need.
