We are seeking a Senior Manager Medical Staff Office maintaining effective and efficient systems to support the medical staff organization including staff development and evaluation and the on-going monitoring of departmental systems. Accountable for establishing, contributing, and implementation of standards applicable to medical staff members relating to credentialing, performance improvement and administrative functions. Complies with all regulatory standards, providing consultative expertise to the Medical Staff and hospital leadership on options and permissible actions in order to meet those standards. Supervises a professional support staff in administering aspects of the medical staff services functions
In this position you will:
Work effectively, confidently and pro-actively with others in the department, physicians, administration and other hospital personnel
Oversees the Medical Staff Office including planning, organizing, directing and evaluation. Independently establishes priorities and secures resources to achieve the goals and objectives of the department
Provide qualified professional and support staff to maintain a responsive customer oriented team. Manages employee selection, counseling, evaluation, disciplinary action and termination. Recommends sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide appropriate support to the medical staff and hospital management. Creates and revises job descriptions. Establishes and implements staff development training and orientation
Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of systems to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards
Acquire and maintains state-of-the-art knowledge and serves as a consultant on issues related to the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, JCAHO, CMA and Title 22 standards. Actively participates in all related surveys and ensures adequacy and coordination of information required to successfully meet applicable standards resulting in achievement of successful accreditation
Direct staff in the conduct of all disciplinary corrective actions, judicial review, and appeals to the board of directors. Consults with legal counsel, hospital and Medical Staff leadership to ensure compliance with substantive and procedural due process requirements applicable to Federal/State laws, Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and other applicable policies and procedures. Guides the medical staff, in concert with legal counsel, through disciplinary processes and legal proceedings involving physicians and allied health professional. Maintain the official record of all proceedings
Maintain personal adherence to professional confidentiality standards established within the Department and in accordance with legal, ethical, and hospital policies; handling information with a high degree of sensitivity and diplomacy
Facilitate functions of the organized medical staff as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations. Assists leadership with interpretation and enforcement of the functions and mandates outlined in these documents. Ensures appropriate development and maintenance of current department policy and procedure manuals
Prepare and controls the departments operational and capital equipment budgets
Develop and maintains effective working relationship with the Medical Staff leadership; providing consultative expertise, administrative and other delegated support as necessary for them to fulfill their obligations
Work with Providence Health System, Los Angeles Regional Medical Staff offices, when appropriate, to standardize systems and share credentialing information
Contributes to and participates in departmental, as well as, improving organization performance program and establishes departmental policies and procedures
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Health care related field Or equivalent educ/experience
If no Bachelor's Degree:Certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Medical Staff Coordinator (CMSC)
5 years in Recent experience in a Medical Staff Office position which includes management and supervisory responsibility
Knowledge of medico/legal issues, State/Federal Regulatory Requirements, JCAHO and CMA Accreditation Standards.
Independent problem solving and decision making abilities
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated leadership skills
Must demonstrate understanding of the medical staff organization responsibilities and its relation bylaws, rules and regulations that govern the organization, JCAHO standards, survey process, scoring guidelines, other regulatory agency requirements/standards; medico-legal issues and laws relating to medical staff organizations; clinical information systems and data management techniques
Develop office procedures
Establish and maintain filing systems
Shorthand or equivalent (speedwriting, notehand, etc.)
