Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under general direction by the Department Director and Area Imaging Manager, and in collaboration with the Medical Director of Radiology, staff radiologists, and other members of the medical staff, the Radiology Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the department and assists the Director and Manager with those management functions for which the Director is accountable. The Radiology Supervisor is technically and clinically competent in radiologic technology for all ages served: infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Demonstrates and adheres to department standards and serves as an administrative and clinical resource for department staff. Clinical and technical responsibilities account worked hours as needed. Serves as a customer service representative to patients, their families, the public, the medical staff and all caregivers. Participates in quality assurance and organizational improvement activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Clinical Competence:

  • Participates in the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused advanced imaging studies for all ages of patients served: infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

  • Performs all patient handling responsibilities in a professional, age-appropriate, caring, and concerned manner.

  • Ensures that imaging studies meet or exceed the highest standards of image quality, positioning, radiation safety, and other technical parameters.

  • Serves as a clinical and technical resource for the department staff, manager, director and the medical staff.

  • Human Resources:

  • Participates in interviewing and hiring qualified staff. Orients new staff members and appropriately completes orientation checklist.

  • Monitors performance vs. established department standards. Coaches/ counsels staff when issues require immediate attention. Provides director with documentation related to progressive discipline.

  • Develops introductory and annual performance reviews and presents same after review by Department Director.

  • Recommends policies and procedures, especially those that are clinical in nature.

  • Staffing/Productivity: Coordinates allocation of human resources and develops department technologist schedule. Monitors labor productivity, workflow patterns, and makes performance improvement recommendations to Director.

  • Customer Satisfaction: Responds to customer concerns in an age-appropriate manner regarding front office, staff performance, etc., and facilitates resolution. Communicates with director in terms of issues identified and action required.

  • Resource Management: Ensures supplies are ordered, available and used in a cost-effective manner. Monitors equipment performance and coordinates maintenance and repair.

  • Fiscal Management:

  • Assists with justifying any variances in performance, analyzes trends, and identifies opportunities for improvement with Department Director and Manager. Provides input during annual budget process.

  • Assures accurate charge entry. Reviews and approves timecards for submission to Payroll.

  • Quality Improvement:

  • Resource Utilization:

  • Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available, accounted for and used in a cost-effective manner.

  • Safety:

  • Helps to provide a clean, comfortable environment for customers and others by taking appropriate safety precautions and responds to urgent safety situations effectively.

  • Productivity:

  • Organizes, prioritizes and completes activities and assignments in an efficient manner.

  • Demonstrates initiative in assisting others and performing other duties based on skill level and training orientation.

  • Quality Improvement:

  • Participates in department problem solving, suggests improvements, and facilitates change.

Skills:

  • Able to effectively communicate with physicians, customers, and colleagues in person, by telephone and in writing.

  • Writes routine reports, notes, and memoranda.

  • Reads and interprets written materials such as prescriptions, physician’s orders, policies and procedures, safety regulations, and routine correspondence. Interprets a variety of instructions presented in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule format.

  • Applies basic arithmetic and algebraic concepts such as proportions, percentages and simple equations with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Solves practical problems and deals effectively with situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Regularly required to use initiative and make independent judgments.

  • Concentrates on daily details in a busy and distracting environment.

  • Computer skills at a user-level are essential.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Coursework/Training - Graduate of a program in radiologic technology approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association.

Experience: 3 years Experience in an acute care/hospital radiology department.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist in Diagnostic Radiology issued by the state of California.

  • CPR within 6 months of start date.

  • State of California Technologist’s Fluoroscopy Permit obtained within 6 months of start date.

  • Must have one of the following: Advanced A.R.R.T. certification in mammography, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine or computed tomography.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Advanced qualifications in at least one specialty imaging area.

Experience: Supervisory experience.
