We are looking for a Sterile Processing Technician for the Sterile Processing Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: On Call / Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Evenings

Job Summary:

Cleaning, preparation and sterilization of instruments, trays and equipment. Operating departmental machinery. Receiving, labeling, stocking and delivery of supplies and equipment. Operating a computer, answering phones and filling orders. Cleaning and sanitizing of work surfaces and storage areas.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently performs receiving, decontaminating and cleaning of instruments to make sure they are clean and free of bio burden so they can be sterilized properly.

  • Consistently performs assembly, wrapping and sterilization of instrument sets.

  • Accurately monitors sterilization processes to ensure parameters of sterilization are met.

  • Use the proper chemical and biological tests to ensure the cleaning and sterilization equipment is functioning properly.

  • Accurately performs decontamination on patient equipment so it is clean for reuse.

  • Monitors inventory of supplies and linen to ensure there is an adequate supply to perform the duties of the department.

  • Accurately document information and results of the biological tests.

  • Accurately perform proper operation of washing, decontamination and sterilization equipment used in the Sterile Processing Department.

  • Respond to all stat requests of instrumentation.

  • Accurately performs duties with the electronic instrument tracking system.

  • Prepares case carts for surgery.

  • Dispense supplies to appropriate locations and put instruments away as needed.

  • Restock OR rooms with supplies. Return all unused sterile supplies and instruments.


  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic math skills.

  • Maintain a good working relationship with management, employees internal to the department and employees external to the department.

  • Prioritize assignments and tasks effectively.

  • Able to function effectively and professionally in an environment of unpredictable situations and critical circumstances.

  • Ability to be contacted by telephone or other dependable means of communication.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Licenses/Certifications: Certified Central Service Technician.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: 2 years Experience as SPD tech.
