Providence Health & Services Business Intelligence (BI) Developer in Irvine, California


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer. This position works 100% remotely and is open to candidates residing in Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon, or California.

We are seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer who will be responsible for developing, revising, and enhancing standard dashboard delivery in the Insights Decision Support Application. Developers build to the standards set by the team. Documentation and procedures are kept up to date with current technical requirements.

Understands the underlining data mart structure for successful OBIEE repository build requirements. Recommends the creation of map/interactive dashboard catalog objects and healthcare financial data calculations and dimensionality. Accountable for translating management reporting requirements to an optimal performing OBIEE RPD model. Partners with IT Apps, the data integration team, the cost team, Healthcare Intelligence and End Users.

In addition, a business need must exist for an incumbent to move to a higher level in the career ladder. To become a Senior OBIEE Developer, it is required to demonstrate the ability to interpret, predict, and plan for end user recommendations that can take the task to completion without management intervention.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Define, design, build, test, deploy, and support interactive standard dashboard delivery in the Insights Decision Support System.

  • Works closely with the data integration team, the Insights Reporting Manager, and other OBIEE Dashboard Developers.

  • Key coordinator in the daily operations, configuration and maintenance of the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) repository for Providence. Understands the basic clinical and financial business processes, data quality issues, data use, and any other areas of special focus for the data assigned.

  • Responsible for the key enhancement recommendations for maintenance and development of existing and new repositories.

  • Plan, document, communicate, and participate in the production system activities such as upgrades, updates, patching, and other maintenance with department users, IT team, Healthcare Intelligence, and additional vendors associated with OBIEE. Also performs the quality aspects of development for testing, version control and release management activities.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the metrics and dimensions in the presentation layer of the repository meet the requirements for successful financial, clinical, and quality reporting for build of enhancements for innovative changes in the system.

  • Responsible for documenting agile sprint scrum activities in project management software adheres to departmental policies and is effective in communicating status and documentation of procedures.

  • Understands the improvements necessary to help with finding solutions that meet end user expectations.

  • Has healthcare, financial, and technology experience that allows for easy implementation of new technical changes to standard dashboard and analysis build items. This knowledge would include understanding EMR data such as the EPIC system.

  • Develop/maintains depth and breadth of decision support analysis across lines of business.

  • Ability to perform ad-hoc analysis with Microsoft Power BI tools for non-standard data or elements that comprise new data elements not available within Insights.

  • Assist with development of reconciliation analysis with other team members in Insights.

  • Support development of educational content for Insights Users.

  • Position may require some travel to help with implementations or trainings.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, healthcare administration, or mathematics or equivalent work experience.

  • At least 6 years of database development experience.

  • At least 3 years of BI experience with a focus on designing and developing interactive dashboards

  • Healthcare experience
