Providence Director, System Governance PSJH in Irvine, California

Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director, System Governance PSJH to our location in Renton, WA.

We are seeking a Director, System Governance PSJH to be responsible for initiating, designing and directing the development of key system governance programs and solutions for Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH), including providing expert guidance in the identification, development and implementation of best-in-class governance tools and resources. The Director will work closely with system leaders to provide strategic governance leadership to the PSJH System Board of Directors, and in close partnership with the team supporting the PSJH Sponsors Council. The Director will have accountability for the development, planning, implementation and ongoing management of annual system governance support plans, education programs, systems and structures including governance assessments, and communication programs. The position will work in close collaboration with the GVP and will supervise members of the PSJH system governance team. The Director will be a primary expert to the liaisons to the system board committees. As a governance leader, this position requires strong use of initiative and independent judgment. The Director will possess refined communication skills, strategic planning ability, project management acumen, strong relationship skills, and the ability to balance needs of multiple stakeholders to further the Mission and vision of PSJH.

In this position you will:

  • System Governance Planning: Accountable for designing and implementing the PSJH system governance annual cycle, planning elements and deliverables. Ensure alignment between system governance services, community governance services, and the Sponsors Council services. Formulate PSJH policy recommendations for governance activities in partnership with the Department of Legal Affairs and subject matter experts. Partner with Communications to create and synchronize communication and education programming. Develop and conduct the needed systems and structures, including elements such as annual self-assessments for the PSJH Board of Directors.

  • System Governance Implementation: Utilizing strong strategic planning and project management skills, direct a workplan for developing system governance services and implement those services in a timely manner. Developing tools and templates, writing and editing content, designing knowledge sharing communities, and providing spot consultations are all examples of responsibilities for this role.

  • System Governance Continuous Improvement: Maintain the set of system governance services, and at a minimum annually, collect feedback from stakeholders - including system management executives and liaisons for the PSJH Board Committees, as well as the PSJH System Board of Directors. Make and implement recommendations for improvement. Lead the identification and implementation of best-in-class system governance standards for PSJH.

  • System Governance Systems & Structures: Executes agendas for Board meetings and Governance Committee. Provides expert leadership and project oversight of workplans for the PSJH System Board and Governance Committee. Directs work to support PSJH Board and Governance Committee. Runs process to collect annual goals and workplans for all PSJH Board Committees. Manages planning for Retreats, Assemblies, etc. for PSJH System Board.

  • Management Skills: Directs the day-to-day functioning of the System Governance Office, including supervising System Governance Office staff. Oversee and lead the work of system governance caregivers via a direct reporting relationship. Demonstrate the ability to delegate, provide oversight and direction, and lead a highly sustainably engaged team of caregivers that achieves its goals. Empower caregivers to take responsibility for their work by promoting accountability and providing regular feedback. Support caregiver recruitment and retention, including providing performance management, recognition, and growth & development planning.

  • System Governance Relationship with Sponsors Council and Community Governance: Key partnership with the staff for the PSJH Sponsors Council, coordinating and aligning activities accordingly. Create and maintain close relationship with Community Governance team and coordinate activities.

  • System Governance Internal Relationships: Serve as an expert resource for Board Committee Executives, Liaisons, and Executive Assistants. Develop strong and supportive relationships with this community, furthering their sense of community and proficiency in their roles. Serve as a representative for the GVP on internal and external councils as appropriate.

  • System Governance External Relationships: Coordinate with external consultants providing system governance services to PSJH as needed - provide guidance, support, barrier resolution, etc. Maintain active sensing and expert knowledge of external governance literature and share with system governance audiences. Attend internal and external meetings to stay current on governance issues and the evolving healthcare landscape. Identify best practices and knowledge transfer opportunities. Provide strategic thought leadership and conduits for knowledge transfer to advance the system governance capabilities of PSJH.

  • Other: Serve as an active member and leader in the Leadership & Governance Services team, taking on additional roles and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, or a related discipline or equivalent educ/experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in health care, planning, public administration, governance or a closely related field

  • Minimum of eight years of leadership experience in management or supervisory positions

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • At least 7 years of Experience with health care governance and an understanding of the health care industry and operations

  • 5 years training and experience in facilitation, change management, and process improvement metholodogies is considered valuable

  • Ability to think strategically and develop strategic/business plans, organize complex projects

  • Strong project management skills, including continuous performance improvement and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Outstanding communication and relationship management skills, including developing communities of practice across geographies. Ability to facilitate teams and groups to achieve results. Customer focused.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently

  • People Management Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in supervision and management

  • Ability to effectively manage on-location and remote teams and caregivers

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain and train caregivers.

  • Outstanding caregiver coaching, mentoring and development skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a department and/or caregivers

  • Technical and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams / other communication technologies, and Director's Desk / other online repository tools, with associated written, analytical and verbal communication skills
