Providence is calling a Tele Sitter Monitor (Part time/Night shift) at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Tele Sitter Monitor who will provide basic nursing care to patients, under direct supervision of RN; assists RN in observation and care of patients in assigned area(s). Demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population and responds appropriately to patients and families of with knowledge age-specific needs base on scope of service of unit/department where assigned. Competent in Tele-sitter observation and surveillance of assigned patients, with a first line of action to, verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors. Collaborate with the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance and is knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital polices.

In this position you will:

  • Adhere to and maintains established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies

  • Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards

  • Provide appropriate, direct patient care in assigned area(s) including hygiene, positioning, nourishment and transportation assistance

  • Perform basic nursing procedures application of: heat and cold treatments, simple dressings, elastic stockings, restraints and ointments and spray as directed by RN; administration of enemas, perineal care, post mortem care; collection of specimens. Obtain and document patient intake and output, vital signs including temperature

  • Respirations, pulse and blood pressure and weight

  • Prioritize work and provides prompt and efficient service

  • Maintain patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's care and treatment

  • Maintain a safe working environment

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and unit care data

  • Participate in educational programs, in-services and meetings as required

  • Demonstrate understanding and proficiency of the use of the Video monitoring (VM) software

  • Maintain visual observation at all times

  • Verbally redirect patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room

  • Immediately summon the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance

  • Participate in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to this patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN

  • Seek help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Assure patient environment safety and seeks assist and with removal of any potential safety hazard from room

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed coursework/training in MOAB I/II within 30 to 150 days of hire for employees in Emergency Department

  • Satisfactory completion of training for Nursing Assistants

  • Completion of tele-sitter training and demonstration of competencies

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association

  • If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, this will be accepted until card expiration date

  • Current LA City Fire Card – must be secured within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Microsoft windows experience

  • Ability to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated tasks.

  • Accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasks

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to complete assignments in a timely manner

  • Fluent ability to understand and communicate using basic medical terminology

  • Ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families and co-workers

  • Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 12 tele-sitter patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset

  • Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes

  • Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff

  • Basic computer operation skills

  • Efficiency in multitasking

  • Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six (6) months experience in acute-care as certified nursing assistant
