We are seeking a Trauma Patient Account Coordinator who will be r esponsible for the review and follow up of the following tasks, including but not limited to: Follow up of all of the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center self pay trauma accounts, trauma accounts denied by insurance and are determined that no other payment resources are available, billing and follow up of accounts to the Los Angeles County Trauma Program in accordance with their screening and billing guidelines and that denied, and potential third party liability cases related to trauma patients .

In this position you will:

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, infection control, and patient/customer safety standards.

  • Review and reconcile all trauma accounts for completeness of Trauma Program TSCE, CHIP, and Hospital Certification of Inability to Cooperate forms.

  • Ensure timely generation of self pay trauma billing to patients/guarantor.

  • Perform secondary screening of patient for eligibility for insurance coverage, third party liability (TPL) or other programs that will help patients meet their payment obligations.

  • Assist patients/guarantors/callers in applying for the LA County Trauma Program if they did not apply at the time of service to the patient; and obtain any required information or signature.

  • Timely bill the LA County Trauma Program and provide notification to Trauma Office, Marina Medical Group and Santa Clarita Billing.

  • Analyze and prepare trauma patient accounts, including but not limited to correcting Meditech insurance plans mnemonic, financial adjustment transactions.

  • Preparing refund requests to the LA County Trauma Program in accordance to their guidelines.

  • Collaborate with PHCMC Admitting Nurse, Case Management and other appropriate hospital staff on in-house patients and the program(s) that best meets the trauma patient’s health care needs.

  • Negotiate with attorneys on trauma TPL cases that are not assigned to Health Advocates (HA). Review and recommend for approval negotiated settlements from HA for management.

  • Participate in Trauma Program Audits performed by LA County Department of Health Services. Primary audit participant for billing and follow up documentation questions with DHS representatives/auditors; explaining hospital policies, processes and documentation demonstrating compliance with the program.

  • Review and reconcile HA reports.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years Revenue cycle experience, preferably in Collections/Follow up or Customer Service.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written/oral communication skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of CMS, DHS, and managed care billing policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with medical/hospital coding (CPT, ICD9, HCPCS) and standard billing formats (UB and 1500 claims forms), must be computer proficient and familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel).

  • Good typing and math skills.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Input data into computer program.

  • Research information.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training; 2 years of college.

  • Bilingual (Spanish).
