Providence is seeking a Senior Clinical Informatics Specialist:

The Senior Clinical Informatics (CI) Lab Specialist is a subject matter expert that works independently to support laboratory components of the EHR, clinical decision support and laboratory specific information systems associated with laboratory testing. The Senior Clinical Informatics (CI) Lab Specialist participates in a collaborative effort with key contributors and other informatics lab specialists, to design and develop effective laboratory workflow, operational processes, and system functions to drive optimal outcomes and efficiencies. The Senior Clinical Informatics (CI) Lab Specialist supports leadership decision making by data gathering and conducting sophisticated analysis. The Senior Clinical Informatics (CI) Lab Specialist implements change to align with patient safety, strategic and regulatory goals and are effective communicators for varying audiences from clinicians to executive leadership and vendors.

The Senior Clinical Informatics (CI) Lab Specialist develops and maintain close relationships with key contributors, which include system and operational leadership, front line staff, governance groups, multi-disciplinary staff, and vendors. The Senior Clinical Informatics (CI) Lab Specialist collaborates to prioritize demands, set appropriate expectations, establish appropriate metrics and targets, and manage change implementation.

The Senior CI Lab Specialist is a change leader and serves as a positive, progressive, professional role model.

In this position you will:

  • Provides technical and application expertise and recommends innovative ideas, processes and/or procedures for enhancements, and modifications to improve existing pharmacy systems.

  • Leads the planning and execution of medium to large projects as they relate to the laboratory related workflows and laboratory information systems; serves as principal point of contact on multiple complex issues, tasks or projects.

  • Develops and documents system design and workflow processes of system needs for clinical management, staff, and providers.

  • Functions as a liaison between these stakeholders and the system build teams.

  • Provides advanced technical and application expertise to design, analyze, and optimize clinical information systems.

  • Ensures system design achieves Health System objectives of standardization, integration, and efficiency and supports compliance with policies and procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Shares knowledge and expertise in the growth and development of team members. Serves as a mentor to clinical informatics lab specialists.

  • Works collaboratively with the education team to develop change communication and training materials. Obtains approval where required.

  • Performs complex maintenance when appropriate; assists and/or leads testing updates and new releases prior to production use.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Fast paced environment with multiple interruptions. Frequent travel among regional facilities (up to 50%) and occasional travel among PSJH entities (10%-40%) is required. A valid driver's license, care license, and a reliable vehicle for transportation throughout the region is required. Employee may be required to work on-call, after hours and variable shifts and weekends.

  • Acts as principal engineer for the scoping, preparation, creation and implementation of all enterprise change management processes as it relates laboratory operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree BS in informatics, laboratory science, medical technology or related science

  • 5-8 years or related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree MS in clinical/health/laboratory informatics

  • Within 1 year of hire Technology related certification/proficiency

  • Upon hire: Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Technician certification

  • Familiarity with systems and applications. Training in laboratory informatics/administration or equivalent. Advanced computer hardware and software expertise.
