Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Associate Patient Access Representative (On-Call, Days) to our location in Orange, CA.
We are seeking a Associate Patient Access Representative to be responsible for assisting patients during the on-site registration and arrival process for scheduled and unscheduled visits as well as collecting accurate demographic information, insurance information, and collecting patient liability at the time of service. This individual is also responsible for financial clearance functions on assigned scheduled accounts during registration. The Associate Patient Access Representative greets and serves patients in a professional, friendly, and respectful manner to promote positive encounters. All information is gathered while adhering to regulation and compliance requirements and guidelines and is documented timely and accurately.
The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes the PJSH mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, the incumbent serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organizations.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Verify patient demographics and activate patients in the system of record upon arrival on the date of service, if the patient has been pre-registered.
Verify patient insurance by confirming and document insurance eligibility of patient coverage benefits, including coverage limits, number of days, patient responsibility, effective dates, and follow-up with patient and/or referring physician office in the event of failed eligibility. Referrals to Financial Counselor, when appropriate.
Contacts patient’s family or physician office to obtain missing insurance information and authorizations.
Ensure required/applicable forms and documents are presented and explained during time of registration (e.g., Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Important Patient Information, etc.).
Obtain all necessary patient signatures at time of arrival.
Perform POS collections when appropriate.
Understands ministry’s policies on discounts, patient payments plans and global services.
Ensure financially cleared patients go directly to the area of service in order to receive treatment; refer patients to Financial Counseling when appropriate.
Assist patients and customers in navigating throughout the hospital facility.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Some college level coursework, in Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant.
2 years registration experience. Familiarity with basic financial clearance functions.Bilingual English/Spanish. Previous experience with Meditech system.
1 year knowledge of Epic Application.
Demonstrated knowledge of CPT and ICD coding and medical terminology.
Basic knowledge of insurance and managed care payors, healthcare registration, Medicare Secondary Payor, EMTALA and ABN.
BLS - Basic Life Support upon hire.
Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA).
Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS).
