We are looking for a Clinical Dietitian Food Service for the Dietary Consulting at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

The dietitian, under general supervision, as part of a multidisciplinary care team, provides nutritional care for patients and customers. Responsibilities include nutritional assessment; care plan formulation, documentation, and implementation; patient/staff/community education; interval reassessments and discharge planning.

Essential Functions:

  • Nutrition Focused Physical Exam: Nutritional screening, assessment and reassessment, care planning and documentation of nutritional needs integrating age-related changes of adolescent (3-17 years), young adult (18-45 years), middle adult (46-60 years), and older adult (60+years), including nutrition consultants with patient, family members, staff and physicians.

  • Attends multidisciplinary patient care rounds and pertinent clinical meetings as required.

  • Recommends food and other nutrients including nutrition under the directing of the MD. Monitors response to prescribed nutrition therapy Monitors accuracy of nutrition therapy, i.e. delivery of nutrition support, accuracy of menu modification, calculation and correction.

  • Ensures that patient's needs for special diets and altered meal schedules are met. Identifies patient diet knowledge deficits, including foods-drug interactions.

  • Provides nutritional counseling on food-drug interaction, modified diets and nutrition therapy.

  • Is involved in nutrition care planning across the Continuum of Care, including discharge planning and goal setting (outcome focused).

  • Completes CQI as assigned. Adopt a floor productivity, Assigned training.

  • Preceptor of interns.


  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Computer proficiency.

  • Working knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition and diet therapy; knowledge of nutrition in the life cycle.

  • Medical record documentation skills.

  • Teaching skills, both one-on-one and in group settings.

  • Knowledge of food preparation, service and delivery techniques.

Minimum Position Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics and Food Administration.

  • Coursework/Training - Successful completion of internship approved by the American Dietetic Association.

Experience: 1 year experience through internship.

Licenses/Certifications: Registered Dietitian.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.

Experience: 1 year experience.

Licenses/Certifications: RD with CNSC (Certified Nutrition Support Clinician) or CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator).
