We are looking for a Social Worker for the Post Partum Depression Program at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: Part time - 48 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Utilizes knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment and community resources in planning for the treatment of patients in various Behavioral Health Services programs. Organizes and leads groups and individual therapy sessions to meet the treatment needs of Behavioral Health Services patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Initiates preliminary discharge plan and completes psycho-social assessments within Emergency Department length of stay.

  • Includes the patient and family or S.O. when indicated and with required releases in the assessment process.

  • Function as the coordinator of all discharge planning needs for all patients assigned as part of assigned caseload and aggressively pursue the most appropriate and timely discharge of those patients.

  • Actively participates in the Mental Health Triage Team process and ensures the development of the patients’ treatment plan.

  • Brings information from direct interactions with the patient and the family to the Mental Health Triage Team, the nursing staff and the attending physician.

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate and consult with other mental health professionals on staff and in the Community.

  • Provides concise and accurate charting of patient progress.

  • Works cooperatively with physicians and other treatment team members and stays current on the documentation of other members of the Mental Health Triage Team.

  • Demonstrates the ability to function independently and to take initiative to assess and deliver comprehensive social services.

  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks, work at a rapid and productive pace and making effective use of their time.

  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and on-going education including all requirements to maintain of current licensure.

  • Demonstrates good judgment regarding consulting with Clinical Program Coordinator, Managers, Director, Physicians and other Departments.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of psychiatric and/or chemical dependency and treatment modalities.

  • Understands the principles of group dynamics and possess the experience required to provide a variety of psycho-dynamically oriented groups to meet the needs of patients as prescribed in their treatment plans.

  • Demonstrates ability to relate in a therapeutic and supportive manner with all patients and their families.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Plans for the discharge needs of patients from the time of their admission to their final discharge from the program.

  • Responsible for providing an appropriate aftercare plan to each patient including who patient will be continuing in treatment with post discharge.

  • Takes responsibility for working with supervisor on covering the clinical responsibilities of the position for planned absences and other administrative issues.

  • Charts on service patient interactions and activity in a concise and accurate manner.


  • Knowledge of psychiatric/chemical dependency treatment modalities.

  • Knowledge of community housing and treatment resources for purposes of providing.

  • Ability to facilitate a variety of process oriented or didactic therapeutic groups.

  • Ability to function independently, assume assignments of the program and actively participate in the team process.

  • Resolve problems with colleagues or supervisor directly according to chain of command.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with treatment team.

  • Demonstrate respect and courtesy to all patients, staff, physicians and visitors.

  • Be a positive ambassador for the program to the rest of the Hospital and the Community.

  • Actively partner with supervisor to resolve problems until the best outcome is reached.

  • Participate in all required Hospital initiatives including mandatory training and certification, etc.

  • Demonstrate behaviors that exemplify the values and mission of St. Joseph Hospital.

  • Demonstrate an understanding regulatory and compliance requirements for behavioral health and substance use disorders.

  • Working knowledge of LPS mental health law and how to access these services for patients.

  • Understanding of expectations of the Office of Patients Rights.

  • Understanding of HIPAA requirements for mental health services.

  • Knowledge and understanding of DMH, Policy, Title 22 and TJC regulations.

Minimum Position Requirements:


  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Or

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Or PsyD.


  • Current license as a LCSW, MFT or Clinical Psychologist.

  • CPR.

  • MAB; will be provided on an ongoing basis by the Hospital.

Preferred Position Qualifications:


  • 2 years experience on an acute psychiatric service in a hospital setting.

  • 2 years in a position that required participation on an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
