Providence Health & Services Central Telemetry Technician in San Pedro, California
Providence is calling a Central Telemetry Technician (Per-Diem/ Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company Of Mary San Pedro Hospital in San Pedro, CA.
We are seeking a Central Telemetry Technician who will perform the clerical duties of the nursing unit, is responsible for observing, documenting, and reporting cardiac rhythms of patients on Telemetry.
In this position you will:
Do Greetings of:
Greet visitors, patients, physicians, and staff and facilitates requests for directions, patient in information, and charts data
Answer telephone by identifying unit and name by second ring, relaying messages as required
Take telephone reports from other departments, relaying information to the nurses and physicians
Do Maintenance of Medical Records:
Maintain all telemetry records are updated in chart on every shift
Do telemetry Duties:
Receive report each shift from off-going technician
Record cardiac rhythm status of each patient at the beginning of shift by placing rhythm strips and interpretation on chart
Record changes in cardiac rhythm as they occur. Immediately informs nurse of changes and primary care nurse of abnormalities
Ensure at the beginning of each shift that all communication systems are intact and in good working order. Reports equipment malfunction to the manager/director and/or to POM each time they occur
Ensure that patient rhythms are observed at all times. Does not leave station for any reason without being relieved from duty by qualified telemetry tech or RN
Establish that the telemetry documentation is current at all times with information about rhythm changes
Check and document the monitor number being used for each patient on every shift
Maintain equipment in working order for all patients
Assure that patients’ transmitters are brought to nurses’ station prior to discharge of each patient on monitor
Maintain telemetry supplies
Identify the transmitter for new patients by verifying that a label with patient’s name and room number is on each transmitter
Maintain Telemetry competencies at all times with a focus on advancing knowledge within the scope of Central Telemetry Tech
Maintain all Telemetry documentation per policy and per standard
Maintenance of unit supplies, services and equipment:
Maintain inventory of supplies on nursing unit by ordering from Purchasing according to established quotas
Maintain record of orders placed and received and follows through on orders not received
Maintain desk supplies according to the established quotas
Demonstrate working knowledge of the hospital information system
Leadership and Supervision:
Participate in orientation of new personnel, serving as a preceptor to newly hired central telemetry tech, reporting performance progress to manager and recommending corrective actions as indicated
Required qualifications for this position include:
Dysrhythmia class and passes exam within six (6) months of hire
General clerical experience or successful completion of Ward Clerk/Unit Secretary training program
Demonstrate a working knowledge of computers
Ability to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated tasks
