Description
Under the direction of Saint John's Health Center Executive Director of Philanthropy, Corporate & Foundations Relations Director will be responsible for creating, implementing and growing a comprehensive philanthropic corporate and foundations program for Saint John's Health Center Foundation (SJHCF). This director will be responsible for creating strategy for growing philanthropic opportunities that include local, corporate and private grant funding as well as directing the Community Impact Fund grants administration, that align with the mission and goals of the Saint John's Health Center Foundation.
They will have primary responsibility and accountability for the strategic coordination of non-scientific grants for SJHCF, Pacific Neuroscience Institute (PNI) and Saint John's Cancer Institute (SJCI).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Able to successfully manage a multi-unit, complex environment, resulting in significantly improved fundraising performance and growth.
Able to successfully solicit major gifts from corporations and foundations. This includes developing the strategy required for such activities as well as designing and executing the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors for these efforts.
Must be a highly motivated self-starter and entrepreneurial team player with a commitment and passion for the mission of SJHCF
Must have superb communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to articulate the vision, mission and case for support for various fundraising efforts at SJHCF
Must have experience in grant researching, writing, stewardship of grant funding once acquired and report writing for annual reporting requirements
Establishes long-term partnerships and strengthens existing relationships with the corporate and foundation sector as well as key communities that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of the organization.
Grant writing expertise to include:
Foundation research, generation of letters of inquiry and grant proposals, including preparation of budgets, task timelines, work plans, research, performance measures and evaluation plans, working closely with management staff and project partners.
Works collaboratively with program directors and finance department to obtain information, materials and data necessary to prepare foundation and corporate grants.
Gathers performance data and submits reports to ensure fulfillment of grant terms and conditions.
Coordinates personal/site visits between potential funders and Foundation President & CEO, Chief Executive, physicians, researchers and/or program directors to advance funding initiatives.
Keeps up-to-date knowledge of policy direction and priorities of major philanthropic funders dealing with health and human services
Maintains a regularly updated calendar of grant submission and report due dates.
Maintains Raisers Edge database and hard copy files for tracking prospective, pending, active and prior private foundation/corporate funding sources.
Community Impact Committee
collaborates with committee chairman and philanthropic consultants on quarterly Community Impact Fund Advisory Committee
Facilitates relationships with local non-profit program officers and foundation administrators for Community Impact Fund grant making.
Staffs committee as necessary
Provides documentation for detailed Annual Report describing Providence Saint John's Health Center's compliance with conditions set forth by the Attorney General's Affiliation Agreement, in collaboration with the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer.
Strong analytical skills; advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and fundraising software
Proficiency with Foundation Search and Foundation Center
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field, preferably in a business, finance or related management field
CFRE
5 or more years of experience in fundraising through grants, foundations and corporations
5 or more years of proven leadership experience (direct or indirect) in motivating teams to actions, garnering support and buy-in, high engagement and excellent communications
Excellent grant writing and editing skills
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Demonstrated written communication skills
Demonstrated customer service skills
Develops and delivers effective presentations
Thorough knowledge of system-wide programs, services and executive leadership roles
Seasoned, extensive knowledge of funding opportunities at PSJHC
Skill and ability to plan, prioritize, complete complex assignments in a quality manner; and the ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and groups throughout the organization and with external partners to build cases for support
Ability to establish and maintain confidentiality
Ability to work with many different leaders throughout the organization; executives, board members, physicians, researchers and staff members
Demonstrated analytical skills
Ability to influence internal and / or external constituents
Ability to represent the company with external constituents
Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion.
