Providence is calling a Echo Vascular Technologist Lead (Full time/Day shift) at Providence Saint Johns Medical Foundation in Santa Monica, CA.

We are seeking a Echo Vascular Technologist Lead to be responsible for providing diagnostic medical sonography services at a technical level requiring minimal supervision to technical detail. Performs all duties which promotes team concept and reflects the mission and values of Providence Health & Services.

In this position you will:

  • Perform job functions timely and efficiently:

  • Oversee daily department staff schedules ensuring proper department coverage at all locations

  • Monitor daily and weekly environmental cleaning and equipment quality control and maintenance per lab protocol

  • Monitor inventory of supplies used by echo department in all locations. Re-orders supplies to maintain adequate nventory

  • Understand and apply appropriate quality assurance and improvement processes

  • Oversee collection of data and documentation for lab accreditation, maintains and monitors CME accrual for lab accreditation/registry

  • Regularly attends bi-weekly meetings with supervisor/department manager

  • Deliver upon the service expectations of both our patients and fellow staff members by listening to their needs; engaging in positive interactions; and following through on promises made in a thoughtful, efficient, timely and courteous manner so that their total outcome is better than expected

  • Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients

  • Perform procedures to department standard of quality; maintains accurate, complete and timely documentation of all departmental procedures

  • Work in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards including using proper patient positioning tools and utilizing ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety and to prevent injury to the sonographer. Reports any unsafe conditions to the supervisor and/or safety hotline

  • Communicate clinically significant preliminary information to the reading physician according to lab protocols

  • Perform basic patient care skills: vital signs, BP, height/weight, history taking, medication review, EKG, stress testing preparation and assistance as needed

  • Demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal direction, prioritize patient care appropriately and adjust to workflow changes and needs

  • Follow correct procedures for handling and disposing of bio hazardous infectious waste. Complies with all applicable infection control and safety procedures

  • Assist with emergencies as needed

  • Provide open and timely communication with patients, families and their significant others:

  • Provide educational resources to the patient/family as appropriate as instructed by the physician or registered nurse

  • Provide sufficient information to allow patients and their significant others to participate in the patient's care

  • Demonstrate commitment to education and sharing of knowledge:

  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel to the office

  • Obtain ongoing education consistent with level and area of practice

  • Will be asked to serve as a preceptor to others. This will include but not be limited to:

  • Orient and train new personnel or assist in re-orienting / re-training existing personnel

  • Help the orientee seek learning opportunities with a review of pertinent Policy and Procedure, observation skills

  • Provide feedback to supervisor on areas completed and areas needing additional training


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Sonography education and training

  • ARDMS or CCI registered

  • BLS for Health Care Providers

  • Knowledge of vascular procedures

  • Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, knowledge of medical equipment and instruments

  • Knowledge of common safety hazards

  • Ability to use good judgment and critical thinking skills; ability to identify and resolve problems. Ability to apply guidelines and protocols

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and co-workers

  • Ability to work independently, while collaborating with other team members

  • Ability to self-motivate, prioritize, and is willing to invest in a change process to improve efficiencies

  • Excellent written, verbal and listening communications skills

  • Proficient computer skills – data entry, retrieval and report generation

  • Ability to work with a diverse patients/family population

  • Ability to multi-task and deliver patient care in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated competence in specialty areas and commitment to profession growth

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs for documentation of ultrasound procedures

Preferred qualifications for this position include

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

  • Five (5) years experience in hospital or outpatient clinic
