We are seeking a Anesthesia Technician who will be assisting the anesthesiologist and the OOR staff members in maintaining supplies and equipment. Specific areas of responsibility; include gathering and maintaining anesthesia related supplies, assisting with insertion of lines, maintaining a sterile field and assisting the OR RN with room set up. In addition, areas of responsibility include: patient transportation, patient transfer within the operating rooms, and assisting with clerical functions.

In this position you will:

  • Support and participate in activities that foster customer service.

  • Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.


  • Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education.

  • Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements.

  • Participate actively in department staff meetings.

  • Demonstrate mastery of verbal and written communications.

  • Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the Adult population.

  • Maintain and demonstrate knowledge of sterile techniques.

  • Work with the RN to prepare and maintain environment that is clean, safe, and adequately stocked with sterile and non-sterile supplies, assists in charging for supplies and equipment.

  • Demonstrate competency to assist anesthesiologist with specialized procedures including induction, extubation, and regional blocks.

  • Assist in assuring that equipment is in good repair and initiates appropriate steps when problems are identified.

  • Ac as a liaison for the department of Anesthesia to address equipment concerns, evaluate supply requests. Interfaces with other disciplines, such as anesthesia repair contractors, OR and OB staff.

  • Cares for anesthesia machines, which includes troubleshooting problems and routine maintenance and changing of barrel lime.

  • Care for anesthesia carts, which includes organization, stock contents and recommending improvements. Meets with anesthesia to assess par levels.

  • Assist in the ordering of new instruments/equipment and notifies managers of supplies that need to be ordered.

  • Clean and sterile anesthesia equipment when necessary.

  • Maintain inventory records and submits requisitions to ensure adequate general and anesthesia supplies.

  • Communicate with materials managment outgoing stock to help maintain inventory levels and repair costs.

  • Demonstrate competency to gather specialized monitoring lines and equipment prior to surgery, including arterial lines, central venous lines, Swan Ganz lines, hypothermia machines and cell saver. Assists with untangling of lines as appropriate.

  • Assist with blood gases, blood draws including transportation.

  • Demonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary.

  • Is competent to access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job duties.

  • Transport patients from OPSC or nursing units to surgery according to scheduled times or as directed by Registered Nurse.

  • Assist in the moving of the patient between the gurney and operating table.

  • Assist with patient positioning as directed by the Registered Nurse or physician.

  • Assist with room turnover between procedures.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire

  • Current BLS

  • 2 years Must have experience equivalent to an Operating Room Tech or Anesthesia Tech

  • 2 years Working in an OR, including working with/exposure to OR equipment

  • Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems

  • Performs work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills

  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills

  • Data entry and Computer skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree
