Providence Health & Services Chaplain Resident - Spiritual Care Clinical Training in Tarzana, California
Providence is calling a Chaplain Resident (Full-Time/Day Shift) at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.
* This position is only for candidates who have gone through the ACPE process for Residency***
We are seeking a Chaplain Resident provide temporary employment in the Spiritual Care Departments of Providence ministries in Southern California for qualified persons enrolled in Providence Health & Services—Southern California Region's full-time Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. Before employment, Chaplain Residents must first apply for, and be accepted into, that CPE program. Chaplain Residents must successfully complete consecutive CPE units and continue participation in the CPE program in order to continue qualifying for employment as Chaplain Residents. Second year residents who are accepted for specialized training will have already completed a first year residency (four units of CPE).
In this position you will:
Make spiritual care visits to patients and patients’ family members.
Engage in pastoral conversations, assessing and addressing spiritual needs as appropriate
Coordinate patient coverage with staff chaplains on assigned units
Develop collegial relationships with interdisciplinary staff on assigned units
Attend Spiritual Care Department staff meetings and participate in activities, special events, and services sponsored by the Spiritual Care Departments
Attend and participate in interdisciplinary rounds as appropriate, representing patients’ spiritual and emotional interests
Respond to patient, family, and staff requests for spiritual support regarding spiritual and ethical matters, getting consultation as needed
Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient visitations
Serve as on-call chaplain for hospitals as assigned. Carry an emergency pager, make rounds as requested, sleep overnight in an on-call room or within a 20-minute drive of the hospitals, function as the first responder to all requests for a chaplain during the designated on-call hours
Maintain established department policies, procedures, organizational performance improvement programs, and patient/customer safety standards
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree For a first year residency: Degree, with additional graduate theological education
Master's Degree For a second year residency: Degree in theology or pastoral care, plus four units of completed CPE
Driver’s licensure and access to an automobile for driving while on-call
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Care or equivalent
For a first year residency: One completed unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
