We are seeking a Major Gifts Officer who will personally manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, working to maximize their philanthropic commitments to the Foundation through effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
In this position you will:
Demonstrate Providence Health & Services, Southern California’s core values of respect, justice, compassion, stewardship, and excellence to customers, employees, and visitors; and provide quality service in the performance of work assignments and duties
Plan, organize, coordinate and direct fundraising efforts that focus on gifts of $25,000 and more from individuals, businesses, and foundations
Communicate with portfolio prospects through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings, as well as written strategies; ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship utilizing a moves management protocol which includes tracking in the donor database
Create customized solicitation strategies based on strategic objectives of organization and interest of donors
Initiate, maintain and grow donor relationships to maximize their long-term value and benefit to the Foundation
Effectively coordinate the overall relationship management with donors
Develop and revise, as appropriate, “case statements” for the major gifts initiatives
In conjunction with the Executive Director/Vice President of Development establishes a personal annual fundraising goal
Conduct research on potential individual, business and foundation funders
Work with other staff within the Foundation on cultivating annual, major, and planned giving prospects and maintain appropriate personal relationships with current and potential donors in order to foster the purpose and the goals of the Foundation
Attend and participate in fundraising events
Provide 24 hour on call service for donors on a rotation basis
Staffs committees as assigned
Maintain professional growth and development
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance activities, and safety standards
Attend meetings as required
Required qualifications for this position include:
5 years experience in development fundraising including high-level donor solicitations
A thorough and demonstrated knowledge of the prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation process with an emphasis on individual gifts at a level of $25,000 and more
Knowledge of deferred/planned giving approaches and techniques
Demonstrated experience working within time-intensive, results-oriented environment and proposal development for a large institution, preferably a hospital, academic or nonprofit research organization
The candidate must also possess leadership capabilities to develop staff and volunteers, possess outstanding analytical and evaluative skills, and exhibit excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills
Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, as well as, a working knowledge of fundraising software
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Certified as a Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
