Providence is calling a Surgery Scheduler (Full time, Day shift) to Providence Medical Institute in Tarzana, CA.

We are seeking a Surgery Scheduler who will schedule patients for surgery in inpatient and outpatient settings. Coordinates and schedules appointments for preoperative and postoperative office visits and testing.

Successfully complete Environment of Care Healthstream modules in the required timeframes and participate in fire drills and emergency exercises.

Complete annual mandatory education review and competency program.
Coordinate and schedule surgeries, preoperative and postoperative appointments as designated by provider.
Interact with patients, providers and other caregivers within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information.
Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet provider and facility requirements.
Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment and surgical materials.
Provide patients with generic preoperative information sheets and advise patients of preoperative surgical and financial requirements.
Submit patient clinical and financial information to facility assuring appropriate medical records release, if needed.
Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure all registration forms are complete.
Collect patient pre-payment, as directed.
Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner.
May obtain authorizations for surgery.
Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families; assure that information given to patients is accurate and complete.
Ensure efficient written and oral communication.

Required qualifications for this position include:
1 year Healthcare experience.
Typing 40-50 wpm and computer skills.
Excellent customer service and communication skills; ability to effectively interact with public and co-workers; working knowledge of medical insurance HMO/PPO/EPO/Indemnity/Worker’s Comp, etc.
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Working knowledge of computerized registration (preferably EPIC).
Good written and verbal skills.
Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.
Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.
Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type, review and edit reports, documentation and correspondence.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately.
Skill in handling paperwork/filing adequately.
Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.
Sill in written and verbal communication.
Skill in gathering, interpreting and reporting insurance information.
Skill in troubleshooting insurance issues and resolving appropriately.
Ability to type 40-50 works per minute. Ability to learn and use electronic medical record software and computers programs including Microsoft Office products, email, and Internet.
Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other caregivers.
Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric sysatems.
Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursement.
Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Ability to work with little supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, caregivers, and the public.

Scheduling experience in medical office, ambulatory surgery center or outpatient hospital setting
