Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Providence Little Company Of Mary Torrance Hospital in Torrance , CA.
Full time/Days
$5,000 sign-on bonus for eligible external hires that meet required qualifications and conditions for payment.
We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who will perform delegated routine and predictable patient care tasks/duties and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). These duties may include, but are not limited to EKGs, vital signs, basic patient care and transportation. Respond appropriately to patients and families with knowledge of age-specific needs based on scope of service of unit/department where assigned.
In this position you will:
Check patient’s I.D. band daily for accuracy
Assist with patient admitting/transfer:
Set-up room, including monitor equipment, if ordered
Orient patient to environment and routine
Problem solve and serve patient needs
Care for/label/store patient personal property
Label room and equipment to identify by patient
Observe and report data collection to RN
Document in EMR (electronic Medical Record)
Assist during discharge:
Participate in discharge activities, as directed
Accompanie patient to transportation or transports
Provide direct patient care tasks/duties that have been delegated by the RN. Recognize and report problems immediately to the RN:
Take vital signs, weight, etc., as assigned
Perform pulse ox screening and records
Apply, changes, remove external catheters
Perform pre-surgical preps, as needed (i.e. shave)
Ambulate, repositions patient and performs range of motion (ROM)
Apply, changes patient restraints according to established policy
Apply K-pads, cold packs and hyper/hypothermic blankets
Empty Jackson-Pratts and Hemovacs
Apply anti-thromboembolytic hose, sequential compression devices and Plexipulse
Calculate fluid intake and output, calculate % meal eaten
Empty and change drainage containers, report and record contents
Perform specimen collection – NG, emesis, stool, and urine
Perform tray/supply set-up for a bedside procedure
Perform monitoring activities, reports, documents, (i.e., dynamap, pulse ox)
Provide post mortem care
Assist with tube feedings under the direct supervision of the RN, NOT INITIAL FEEDING
Assist in complex feeds
Assist in IV set-up (gather supplies, pump, etc.)
Incentive Spirometry follow-up and coaching
Assist with orthopedic equipment/applications, as directed
Perform tap water enemas and Harris flushes
Personal hygiene:
Bath patient or assists
Provide back care, including massage
Provide oral hygiene and dental care
Provide hair care, including shampoo and brushing
Provide nail care on hands and feet
Provide Foley catheter care
Shave patients
Perform transportation of patients, lifting support, as assigned
Recognize emergency situations; promptly reacts; initiates or supports CPR; follow directions appropriately in emergency situations; reports observations
Other – if also performs the duties of a monitor tech or USA – please document performance in those roles
Documentation/Information Management:
Responsible for timely, accurate and concise documentation in EMR:
Perform documentation and records: Vital signs, weight, container contents (drainage), hemocults, fluid intake and output, and % of food eaten, and all patient interventions
Utilize computer for documentation
Demonstrate working knowledge of Hospital Information Systems
Communicate patient information and changes to RN
Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information
Development/Professional Growth:
Assume responsibility and accountability for own professional growth
Responsible for designated hours of continuing education to maintain current certification
Attend staff development activities of department
Participate in in-services and committees, as assigned
Attend department staff meetings
Performance Improvement:
Participate in and can articulate department and hospital performance improvement projects
Stewardship:
Practice financial responsibility and prudence
Use equipment and supplies in a prudent and effective manner
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Education sufficient for certification
California Nursing Assistant Certification
A current BLS Card from the American Heart Association for Health Care Providers or American Red Cross CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer
Able to perform basic arithmetic computations (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
Able to perform all physical requirements pertaining to delegated tasks
Able to accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasks
Able to organize and prioritize work to complete assignments in a timely manner
Must demonstrate an understanding of basic medical terminology and abbreviations
Able to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families and co-workers
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
One (1) year previous Certified Nursing Assistant experience in a hospital or post acute environment
