We are seeking a Department Assistant Transporter who will assist Physicians and staff in the daily operations of the radiology department. Responsible for transporting patients to imaging department and returning patients safely. Assist technologist in patient care, room preparation, cleaning and other related duties.
In this position you will:
Transport patients safely to and from imaging department. Responsible for anticipating patient needs and exhibits compassion. Communicate with nursing units check out/in of patients during transfers. Maintain standard of care during transport
Review patient questionnaire and charts for physician orders and/or special instructions. Consult with Technologists and patient if necessary to assure safety and appropriateness
Demonstrate understanding with respect to examination differences and submit reports, paperwork and prior studies appropriately
Answer phones promptly, courteously and by identifying department and self. Properly route all incoming calls or takes messages effectively
Communicate effectively with nursing units and staff to insure safe patient handoffs by accurately completing ticket to ride and checking patients in/out according to policy
Communicate effectively with other modalities and/or supervisors and leads for any delays or other pertinent patient information
Demonstrate patient safety aspects of job regarding patient identification, falls precautions and handwashing
Demonstrate working knowledge of equipment needed in transport and patient care (i.e., O2, IV's). Daily evaluate inventory of O2, wheel chairs and gurneys
Assist technical personnel and radiologists by performing a variety of duties for patients and certain heavy duties in the care of physically and/or mentally ill
Keep room/work area neat, organized. Assist with educating others on work area function and needs
DOCUMENTATION/INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:
Demonstrate working knowledge of hospital information system, computer-based systems
Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and compliance in respect to patient care. Maintain complete confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information. Secure and handle patient records maintaining patient confidentiality with respect to patient and family rights
Adhere to organization wide and department specific policies and procedures. Exhibit working knowledge of policies and references policies as needed
Actively create an environment of safe delivery of patient care and functions with constant awareness of safety issues. Immediately correcting and reporting unsafe conditions found
Knowledgeable of radiation safety, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) fire/safety policies and procedures
LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION:
Lead by example in demonstrated work ethic
Attendance: report to work each regularly scheduled workday. Accurately records all work time including meal periods
Punctuality: Ready for work at precise starting time and continues working until scheduled departure time. Return on time from all meal periods
Appearance: Project a professional image, follow the hospital dress code policy and/or department requirements. Wear hospital name badge at all times on duty
General Work Habits: Readily accept work assignments in a positive manner. Perform work that is accurate, neat and consistent. Documentation is legible
Assist and provide orientation/training of new employees and students
DEVELOPMENT:
Attend all assigned staff development activities including minimum attendance at all scheduled staff and hospital meetings
Participate in all in-services and cross training activities as necessary
Assume responsibility for own professional growth and practice. Assume responsibility for maintaining current TB testing, Age specific and required certifications
COMPETENCY CHARTING PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:
Is knowledgeable of hospital-wide of Performance/Process Improvement (P.I.) Methodology as a condition of employment
Offer suggestions and actively participate in departmental and/or hospital-wide Performance/Process Improvement
BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and prioritize time to achieve maximum efficiency when completing work duties and assignments
Alway exercises financial prudence. Identify opportunities for cost savings
Responsible for knowledge and compliance with budget and staffing standards Work overtime only with prior approval of supervisor
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
Current BLS Certification Required
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Requires ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service oriented) working relationship with patients, families, visitors, hospital staff and co-workers
