We are seeking a Occupational Therapist who will be responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice in accordance with regulatory agencies and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). The Occupational Therapist will demonstrate proficient clinical knowledge and skills in providing and initiating treatment programs for individuals with physical impairments. Utilizing a collaborative team approach, the Occupational therapist accurately assesses patients' needs: identify and initiate appropriate Occupational therapy interventions. Providing care to: pediatric, adolescent, young, middle and older adult patients.

In this position you will:

  • Comply with hospital, department, and unit standards, including but not limited to, safety, infection control, quality management, confidentiality, mandatory education, and competencies

  • Facilitate teamwork and effective communication between physicians, staff, and administration by participating in an environment characterized by the core values of Providence

  • Practice in a professional, collaborative, and proactive manner in all interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and caregivers:

  • Demonstrate flexibility adjusting to changes in patient acuity and workload

  • Participate in committees and special projects as assigned

  • Identify risk management issues, taking appropriate actions, and communicating unresolved issues through appropriate channels

  • Participate in the provision of care:

  • Perform patient assessments

  • Formulate goal directed plans of care based on patient outcomes

  • Initiate, individualize, and modify plan of care

  • Collaborate with other services

  • Implement care based on department, hospital, and national standards:

  • Follow established protocols and procedures

  • Follow AOTA and California OT Board Licensing guidelines

  • Demonstrate competency in select skills including, but not limited to:

  • Perform evaluations such as ADL, strength, home/work/family situation, sensation, neurologic, ROM, posture, functional status, cognition, feeding oral motor and developmental

  • Perform techniques such as IADL and BADL training, feeding, transfer training, therapeutic activities, therapeutic exercise, functional balance, and neuromuscular re-education, splinting, joint mobilization, scar management, lymphatic drainage, developmental handling, oral motor exercise and positioning

  • Utilize equipment such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation devices, and TENS, cold laser, fluidotherapy, and paraffin

  • Establish occupational therapy goals (short and long term), plan of treatment and rehab potential in conjunction with the patient, their support system, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to select the most appropriate program for individual patients, based on patient needs and capabilities. Formulates and appropriate discharge plan, re-evaluates the patient, and adjust goals and plan when necessary

  • Identify patient/family/caregiver learning needs and proves appropriate education

  • Demonstrate applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served

  • Areas of specialty may include, but not limited to: Orthopedics, Stroke/Neurologic, Oncology, Lymphedema, ICU, Hand Therapy, Cardiac, Parkinson’s disease (LSVT-BIG), NICU/Infant, Post-Surgical, and Pediatrics

  • Practices stewardship in the delivery of care reflection financial goals of the organization:

  • Use available resources efficiently

  • Demonstrate understanding of overall unit needs and uses downtime to assist others

  • Prioritize commitments and manages multiple tasks efficiently

  • Meet established productivity standards of the department

  • Performance Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in regards to:

  • Attendance and punctuality

  • Comply with department minimum shift requirement and time off procedures

  • Positive customer service; compassionate care and effective teamwork

  • Obtain necessary knowledge and skills needed to maintain competence.

  • Complete all mandatory requirements including current licensure and BLS/RQI

  • Meet all regulatory compliance standards (e.g. The Joint Commission, Title 22, and HIPAA)

  • Specific to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) assignment:

  • Participate in NICU discharge planning conferences, case and family conferences, and discharge planning activities

  • Coordinate with CCS Case Manager for referral to CCS-Paneled provider or CCS Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) for patients who continue to require therapy services after hospital discharge

  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree with certificate from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy

  • Current California State Occupational Therapy License

  • BLS/RQI certificate

  • For NICU: at least one (1) year of clinical experience in any setting providing OT to infants or children with CCS eligible medical condition

  • Equipment Operation: Good working knowledge of general and specialized clinical equipment

  • Able to organize and prioritize work, completes assignments on time

  • Able to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative working relationship with patients, families and coworkers

  • Able to type and use a computer efficiently

  • Able to work effectively independently and with a team

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree with certificate from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy

  • CHT or HTC and PAM for all Hand Therapists

  • One (1) year of experience in adult physical disability setting

  • One (1) year of experience in Hand Therapy for all OT Hand Therapists
