Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Vice President of Planned Giving to Providence Foundations –Los Angeles Service Area
Reporting to the President of the Providence Health & Services (PHS) Foundations for the Los Angeles Service Area, the Vice President of Planned Giving will manage, plan, coordinate and implement a comprehensive estate planning and deferred life gift program; interpret and apply laws and regulations to all aspects of charitable giving; obtain planned gifts; develop and expand major/planned giving donor relationships; and broaden the philanthropic constituency through major/planned giving donor fundraising for the Los Angeles Service Area.

In this position you will:
Demonstrate Providence Saint Joseph Health’s core values to customers, employees, and visitors; and provide quality service in the performance of work assignments and duties.
Develop and implement an effective planned giving strategy that takes into account the unique mission of PSJH and the special needs of donors and potential donors.
Develop, monitor and update a comprehensive one-year and long-range strategic plan including measurable goals and objectives for planned giving program.
Create and implement a planned giving marketing plan.
Train individual giving officers to gain familiarity with planned giving opportunities.
Work with individual giving officers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective donors who have the ability to execute a major/planned gift.
Formulate individualized solicitation strategies for planned giving prospects.
In consultation with donor's advisers, provide donors with legal and tax information regarding bequests and life income gifts.
Draft and review gift illustrations and legal documents.
With counsel, advise the Foundation and Medical Centers on legal matters relating to planned giving, with specific regard for legal requirements and consequences.
Ensure implementation of systems to avoid potential litigation risks related to planned giving.
Protect the best interests of the existing and potential donor base while advising donors of potential means for donating property and/or funds to the Foundation.
Respond to inquiries concerning planned gifts and bequests in a timely manner.
Track estate gifts from probate to completion.
Work closely with other Foundation staff on cultivating annual, major, and planned giving prospects.
Identify, cultivate, and educate financial professionals (attorneys, financial/estate planners, realtors) about PSJHS and its mission.
Develop and conduct planned giving seminars for potential donors and/or professionals.
Develop budgets and other necessary long and short term planning processes to ensure continuity and growth to the program.
Oversee and ensure quality of all mailings and/or publications internally and/or externally that are related to planned giving.
Provide staffing for the Planned Giving Committee and participate on committees as directed.
Manage the planned giving recognition society.
Maintain expertise in technical aspects of planned giving.
Oversee planned gift donor records and database.
Assist the Finance staff in providing an audit trail for planned giving transactions.
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, and safety standards.
Expand the vision and mission of Providence Foundations.
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
Attend and serve on professional/civic service organizations as hospital/foundation representative as required.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor’s Degree required.
5-7 years of experience in planned giving or related field at a large non-profit institution;
Strategic planning; proposal development; and planned giving portfolio management is required.
Demonstrated experience and success with estate planning and major gift solicitation required.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Law degree and experience in the practice of law, including specific emphasis in areas of taxation, trust and estates, probate, corporations, contracts, and real estate is preferred.
Certified as Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG) is preferred.

TrinityCare Hospice provides a full range of palliative care, hospice care, and compassionate support to patients nearing the end of life, and helps guide their families. Care is tailored to individuals and available in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and in the home. TrinityKids Care, a division of Providence TrinityCare Hospice, is the only dedicated children’s hospice program serving Los Angeles and Orange counties. TrinityKids offers compassionate and loving care in the home for children in their final months, and helps guide parents through this difficult process.
PROVIDENCE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOUNDATIONS
Each of the six southern California Providence Health and Services medical centers has its own fundraising foundation, headed by a dedicated vice president who reports up to the Chief Development Officer and President, Providence Southern California Foundations. The foundations enable the respective medical centers to keep pace with advances in lifesaving technology while responding to the unique needs of its individual communities. Through the generosity of their neighbors, the foundations will continue to ensure that the region’s PH&S medical centers remain places of hope to all who come to them in need.
Altogether, there are now over 50 FTE across the foundations, with an aggregated budget in 2015 of $7 million. Growth of both the headcount and budget is anticipated. That growth is associated with the goal of increasing collective baseline fundraising from $39 million in 2015 to $100 million by 2020, including an anticipated $150 million new hospital building campaign at Providence Tarzana.

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Foundation, Mission Hills, supports one of the busiest trauma centers in Southern California, which also serves its community as a cancer center of excellence. Philanthropy is helping to support the refurbishing of two radiology suites, plus upgraded digital mammography and ultra-sound technology.
Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation, San Pedro and Torrance, supports Los Angeles County children and families when they need it most. The Partners for Health Kids mobile pediatric clinic - funded solely through philanthropy - has served 50,000 undeserved and uninsured children since 1994. Equipped with a new $500,000, 38-foot medical van, the mobile clinic will be able to expand its reach even further now to provide immunizations, medical treatment and referrals.
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Foundation The Burbank-based medical center opened the Hycy & Howard Hill Neuroscience Institute to help families touched by neurological disorders. The foundation is in the final phase of its campaign for critically-important funds to build the Cusumano Family Neuroscience Outpatient Center.
Providence Tarzana Medical Center Foundation is in the final phase of its "Giving That Builds" campaign to guarantee that the highest level of care will continue to be available for local children and families. This project will relocate and expand the hospital’s existing pediatric intensive care unit, which is currently located in a small, 40-year-old space that offers little privacy for critically ill patients and families.
Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation, Torrance, supports the medical center in providing a range of palliative care and hospice services to nearly 2,000 families in Southern California each year. The TrinityKids Care program is the only dedicated pediatric hospice care program of its kind in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. In order to compassionately enter the lives of people facing the realities of suffering, loss, death and grief, the foundation realizes ongoing education is needed for more clinicians and staff. Education helps all involved provide specialized care while respecting each person's choices, beliefs and values.
